Disneyland Paris – tips for a magical grown-up holiday

We just came back from Disneyland Paris and it probably comes as no surprise to hear that we absolutely loved it.

When you think about Disneyland Paris – or Euro Disney how it used to be called back in 1992, I bet you think about it as a perfect holiday spot for families with children. Which is very true. But don’t let that stop you from taking a grown-ups only vacation! There are a lot of romantic, seriously fun, and unique experiences geared for adults. Proof below! (and by we I mean Elena, AnouskaLydiaYaninChloe and Leanne)

Where to stay

The first question when planning a holiday at Disneyland Paris is where to stay. The Disneyland Hotel is perfectly located at a stone thrown away from the gates of the Park – a stunning, Victorian-inspired building, with an elegant interior design that offers some great holiday packages. When you stay in a Disney hotel, you also get to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours – additional hours that the park is open only to Disney hotel guests.

Take advantage of the FastPass System

The FastPass system is one of the coolest things about Disneyland. A FastPass is basically a ticket for a specific ride within a specific time frame. So instead of standing in line for one hour, you can grab a FastPass for Tower of Terror, go for other rides, and then just come back to Tower of Terror within the 1 hour window printed on your FastPass. It takes a bit of forethought and planning to get the most out of the FastPasses, but is definitely worth it.

If you’re after big thrills, you’ll be in for a treat as Disneyland Paris has some pretty awesome rides, from the exhilarating adventures on Indiana Jones, plunging 13 unlucky floors on the Tower of Terror, to the adrenaline-inducing Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith and Space Mountain Mission 2.

Where to eat

You might think that the only food options at Disneyland are hot dogs and fries, but you’d be mistaken. There are so many restaurants to choose from, many of them have world class chefs, and some are extremely romantic places to dine. One thing worth noting for those who aren’t Walt Disney regulars: some restaurants are ‘character dining’ meals. If you’re not interested in meeting Micky, you should avoid these restaurants. By and large, they are loud and filled with kids. We happen to enjoy character dining, but we’re big Disney fans – plus what’s a blogger without a selfie with Micky?

We enjoyed a dinner together at the California Grill which is on the first floor of Disneyland Hotel . If you make your dining reservation to coincide with the Wishes Spectacular you can walk out onto the balcony and watch the fireworks display in all it’s glory over the Sleeping Beauty Castle. It’s a pretty amazing view.

Don’t spend your entire day at the park

Leave the park just before lunchtime and treat yourself to a delightful afternoon of relaxation by the pool or at the Celestia SPA. The middle of the day is the perfect time to relax by the pool and beat the crowds. Take some Disney magic home with you and go on a spree in the park boutiques or in La Vallee Village designer outlet, located just a few minutes from the Disney Parks.

Sit back, relax and savour delicious cocktails in the New York City Bar. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to fine wines, beers and mixed drinks. Mirroring a traditional Manhattan nightspot, this is the place to toast and savour your Disney adventure and memories.

Do ‘kid stuff’ anyway

This is clearly the most important tip! Just because you’re an adult and you’re travelling without children doesn’t mean you can’t act like a kid. Spend a day being a kid again and enjoying all the magic on offer at Disneyland Paris. Watch and wave as Anna, Elsa and Olaf pass by on their frosty float during the Disney Magic Parade. It’s the perfect chance to get selfies during this spectacular, daily parade.

If you ever thought that Disneyland is just a place for kids then I hope I’ve managed to change your mind. It’s a wonderful vacation destination for adults too, whether you’re looking for fun, romance or you secretly want to be a kid again and spend your day riding roller coasters! Start searching for holiday packages and spend a magical Christmas holiday in Disneyland Paris. Just imagine the decorations, the ambiance…
