A complete guide to buying jewellery
With the festive season fast approaching, now is the perfect time to buy something significant for that special person in your life.

I think Astley Clarke’s jewellery is hard to beat when it comes to their extensive selection of products, across all prices and finishes. However, for something that is more purse-friendly I love Asos and & Other Stories for beautiful, trend-led pieces that will last more than just one season.

This post was inspired by the recent launch of Astley Clarke’s Icon Nova collection – which I had the pleasure to wear during this shoot. The new 14kt rose gold jewellery collection is incredibly precious and elegant (as you’d expect) and inspired by astral explosions frozen in time.

Every piece is stunning and well worth the investment, but I particularly love the Opal Pendant necklace and the matching ring that feature an elaborate arrangement of brilliant-cut diamonds supported by an intricate rose gold structure.

High-street vs luxury jewellery

The rise of high-street and mid-priced jewellery means that we can now integrate new pieces into our collections without breaking the bank. Pieces are usually sterling silver, gold-plated (also known as vermeil) or made from 9 or 14kt gold, and you’re guaranteed to stand out from the crowd when wearing them.

I personally don’t spend more than £100 on trend-led pieces but invest in timeless classics that can be worn season after season – like the Icon Nova collection, for example.

I think it’s incredibly important to understand the lifestyle of the person you’re buying for. Is she/he active? Does she/he only wear delicate and fine jewellery? Observe with eyes wide open the style of the person you’re buying jewellery for and select your purchase accordingly. For those vintage lovers, make sure you do a little research into history – age adds value and so does provenance, so do your homework.

If unique designs and up-and-coming designers are more your thing though, the London-based e-tailer Rena Sala is a real hidden gem. With a focus on minimalist designs, clean lines and modern shapes, the carefully curated selection of jewellery includes brands like Alighieri, Modern Weaving or Sophie Monet. The website is updated regularly, but if you don’t want to miss out on new pieces make sure you sign up to the brand’s newsletter.
